This is a short list of some of my favorite books.
(1) The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis (when I was a kid, I read this series at least five times, or at least that's what I remember)
(2) "Of Whom the World is Not Worthy" by Marie Chapian (I also read this when I was a kid - age eight. It greatly affected my young faith in Jesus as it tells the story of some evangelists in Yugoslavia before, during and after World War II. My mom said I read it and then rushed into her bedroom to convince her that she needed to read it. It became something special between my mom and myself, and I gave it as a gift to my wife on our wedding day.)
(3) "Silence" by Shusaku Endo (I read this novel while going to grad school at Moody. I can't remember if someone suggested it or if it was required reading for a course. Yet, it greatly affected me in how the Jesuit priests in the book had to struggle with what it meant to renounce one's faith under extreme torture. The book is beautifully written, and I felt as if I was living the life of the main character.)
(4) I used to devour the Michael Crichton books and would argue with my classmates in my literature classes that his writing was astounding and worth being put into the anthologies of great writing. I'm not sure if I would agree with that assessment now, but I do like his books still.
